Reflections of Jed Johnson

Where History Meets

Tranquility

There are places in the world where time seems to pause, where history and nature flow together in seamless harmony. Jed Johnson Lake, located within the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, is one such place.

In this photograph, Reflections of Jed Johnson, I sought to capture that stillness – the calm waters, the rolling hills, and the historic tower that stands quietly in the distance.

The lake was created in the 1940s with the construction of Jed Johnson Dam, named after Oklahoma Congressman Jed Joseph Johnson. The nearby tower, though now unused, adds a touch of history and character to the scene. It has become a beloved landmark for hikers, photographers, and those who find themselves wandering through the refuge. Standing against the backdrop of rugged hills, the tower connects the present to the past, a reminder of both human effort and natural endurance.

What drew me most to this image was the balance it holds. The waters of the lake mirror the sky above, creating a sense of harmony between earth and air. The greenery at the edges of the scene adds life and color, reminding us that nature thrives even in the quietest places. It’s a landscape that embodies both strength and serenity.

For me, Reflections of Jed Johnson is more than a photograph – it is a meditation on stillness and perspective. In our busy lives, moments of calm can feel fleeting, but places like this remind us that tranquility is always waiting if we know where to look. This piece is not only about the lake or the tower – it’s about the pause, the deep breath, and the grounding peace that nature offers us.

Whether you see it as a connection to Oklahoma’s history or a symbol of calm, this image is a timeless reminder of the beauty found in reflection.

Pause. Reflect. Breathe.

Bring home Reflections of Jed Johnson and let the serenity of the Wichita Mountains live on your walls.
